Facades and other baggage explores the idea that the individual can travel and survive migration and displacement, carrying baggage both physically and metaphorically with them. The desire to create domestic stability can be challenged by social and political issues surrounding gender, race, poverty, and consumer culture. The work reflects universal issues of identity, connectivity, survival, and urbanization. My own migration story allows me to look through a local and global lens offering a personal perspective. The figure is wrapped in reclaimed wool blankets replete with their domestic histories they conceal anxiety, social unrest, and the global pandemic, highlighting the fragility of an impermanent home.
